Almarga the land of our fathers and grandfathers

Marga : this word is a Turkish word it is called (Meirga). Meirga means a flat land between high mountains that contained a lot of trees like walnut trees, plants and spring water

Location : Marga is a valley located north east of Iraq and south east of Turkey between two very high mountains. It contained a Spring that was called ayna khwarta, meaning white spring, that ran from the mountains, and through the village. This Spring was cold in the summer and warm in the winter

The People :– The way of life in Marga was mainly based on hunting, farming and raising farm animals

How they Immigrated :– In 1922 the Marga people fled out of Marga and went to a town called(Bersiveh), because they were scared for their life from the Turkish Leader(Sultan Abdul Hameed II) who was Massacring the Christian people. The Marga people stayed in Bersiveh/Douhok for 3 years and after moved out of this area because the living conditions were not that great. They moved to the city of Alqoush in the Ninva . peda and ain sifni where they stayed for another 3 years. Some of the people stayed in Douhok and built two villages (Khirba-saleh and Dizey) whole the majority of the people decided to go back close to their home town Marga. The Iraq government gave them land close to their homeland and they built their houses there. The towns they built are( Levo, Mergasur, Nafkandala, Mala-Arab and Shwaden) which were built by 1928. The biggest village was Levo and the smallest one was Shwaden. The people of Marga stayed in these villages for about 50-55 years until the Iraqi government came in and destroyed these villages. After this the People moved to other cities such as Zakho, Douhok, Mousel and Baghdad. They had not stayed in these cities for long before the Iraq Gulf War had started and lots of people fled Iraq to neighboring countries like Turkey, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon where they seeked refuge to America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and many European countries. Some of them moved back to the villages that the Iraqi government had destroyed to rebuilt their Villages.
